An Afternoon at the beach at the Resort at Longboat Key Club

What better way than to spend a few hours on the beach at the Resort at Longboat Key Club.  It is so calming and peaceful to feel the cool breeze and the warm sun and to enjoy the waves lapping the white sandy beach.  After a long week selling real estate, this is REALLY what I need!

Actually right now, the hotel pool area, the beach bar called Barefoots, Sandspoint Restaurant and the hotel lobby are just beginning to be renovated.  I cannot wait to see the outcome.  So the entrance to the beach has been moved.  The Resort is a 4-star resort with all the amenities of the Longboat Key Club.

My family is a member of the Club.  My interest is tennis at the Tennis Gardens with 21 world-class clay courts.  Being on two teams, I play as much as I can when I am not out selling real estate.  My husband enjoys golf on the two 18-hole golf courses.  In addition there are 5 restaurants, a couple of pools, fitness center, wonderful spa, and a super marina with docks for yachts up to 100 feet (maybe larger?).  A tremendous number of social events are offered, where we meet up with friends from all over the country who make Longboat Key their primary or second home.

Just ask me about the Resort or the Longboat Key Club.....I LOVE IT!

Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida

On Mother's Day I took my mother, daughter and sister to the non-profit Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium on Lido Key in Sarasota, Florida.

Over the years this educational research facility has grown enormously from its small beginnings in Cape Haze near Placida about 35 miles south of Sarasota, to the shark tanks on Midnight Pass on Siesta Key, to its current location on Lido Key in Sarasota.  Originally intended as a small local research laboratory primarily for the study of the Florida marine habitat, Mote Marine now has world-class scientists focusing on conservation and restoration, and education of the marine environment.

I was impressed to see that the educational displays have kept up with issues concerning, not only our local marine habitat in Florida, but also the world's oceans, which the people at Mote are now trying to find answers to.  The two most prominent are preservation and rebuilding coral reefs and a solution to red tide.

Sarasota Promo Video

Sarasota, Florida - a destination for many of the population for warm weather, outdoor sports and events, and cultural attractions.  Sarasota has won many accolades, just recently from Conde Nast and U.S. News & World Report, for being one of the best small towns in the nation.

There is not a better place to call home.  When I return from vacation, I am genuinely happy to see the town of Sarasota below the airplane.  You will never run out of things to do here whether it is beach or boating, tennis or golf, polo or cricket, philanthropic functions, dining, theater, ballet or art galleries.  The list goes on.  Watch the short video below and CLICK HERE TO SEE PROPERTIES IN SARASOTA

International Chalk Festival Next Weekend

The popular Chalk Festival is returning the first weekend of April 2019 to downtown Sarasota, Florida.  It has been held in the charming town of Venice for the past several years.

Sarasota is known for its arts and cultural offerings and is known as the center of the arts and theater in Florida.

Artists from around the world will create their 3-dimensional works of art on the city streets of Burns Court.  It is actually an amazing sight to behold!

Secluded & Alluring Casey Key

Casey Key, an eight-mile long secluded island between Siesta Key (Sarasota) and Venice, Florida, has a history of Indians, U.S.military and more recently reclusive celebrities.

Many are not sure where the name Casey came from, but it is surmised the island was named after an Army Captain John Casey who charted the island and put it on the map in the mid 1800s.

Prior to this time, the island was known as Clam Island, probably due to the shellfish which the Seminole Indians lived on.  Captain Casey charted the island and, it is said, had a trusting and impactful relationship with the Seminoles.

The island now is a very desirable location for those searching for a peaceful, secluded existence with lush, expensive real estate bordering on the long pristine beaches and bayfront waters.  You will find luxurious new homes and retreats scattered with old Florida cottages, and barely a soul on the white-sand beach.  The cultural activities of busy downtown Sarasota can be reached in just over half an hour, and Venice downtown's quaint shops and restaurants are a mere few minutes away.

I currently have an amazing bayfront home & guest house for sale on Casey Key at 719 Casey Key Road with stunning water views and private deeded beach access.  This property is on almost half an acre with a new boat dock.  CLICK HERE for more information and HERE for additional homes for sale on Casey Key.

Lido Beach Pavilion to Stay As Is

Controversy over a local developer's plans to build an upscale bar and restaurant in the place of the Lido Beach Pool & Pavilion in Sarasota has been mounting.  Over 5,000 petition signatures were obtained in opposition.

A meeting on Monday supported by an onslaught of community residents showed the opposition, citing that the plan would inhibit local Sarasota residents and families from being able to park and access a public beach area, which has been available for residents for decades.

The developers have withdrawn their plans, and the Sarasota commission voted 4-1 against the plan.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Offers Top Performances

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, perched on Sarasota Bay, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and has been there longer than I have been in Sarasota, Florida - over 45 years.

This amazing venue brings top performances from orchestras, dance, singers, broadway plays, and lecture series.  Some of the events in the 2019 season are the Broadway play, The Lion King - singer Gladys Knight - The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra - The Boston Pops - Dancing with the Stars - The Russian National Ballet.

Sarasota is so full of culture, and this is just a small part of it.  To live here in a home or condo and enjoy all Sarasota has to offer CLICK HERE

Your dog likes to go to the beach

Venice, Florida, fifteen miles south of Sarasota, has a beach which allows dogs to play together and swim in the Gulf of Mexico.

It is an amazing location in Sarasota County where dogs all seem to get along together.

Just south of this beach is Caspersen Beach, where you can look for sharks teeth.  This short video shows you that this is just one more thing to do in Sarasota, Florida!
