Landmark Colony Beach & Tennis Resort is Demolished

The once-famous Colony Beach & Tennis Resort on Longboat Key has been reduced to rubble after years of neglect.  This former resort was the #1 tennis resort in the country with many well-known players coming to visit and play here.

Plans are being advertised for a 5-star St. Regis Hotel and luxury condominiums, to be completed in the next two to three years.  Please let me know if I can assist with any information.

St. Regis to be Built on Longboat Key

The former now defunct Colony Beach & Tennis Resort on Longboat Key, Florida is being purchased by Unicorp Development Group of Orlando.

This prime piece of beachfront land will be cleared, and plans to build a luxury 5-star St. Regis Hotel and 78 luxury condominiums will be completed in approximately three years.

Plans are for three five-story buildings, including 78 luxury condominium residences between 1,600 and 5,000 square feet.  The estimated prices for these condos will be between $3 million and $10 million.

Beach Renourishment Set for Lido Beach

Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida has been losing sand in the last few years, while Siesta Key across Big Pass, has been gaining sand.  There has been a mini war between the two islands because many of the Siesta Key residents do not want to give up any of their sand to Lido Key!

However, a couple of the condominium buildings on the south end of Lido Key have had significant erosion and are almost on the waterfront at high tide, and now something needs to be rectified.  The City of Sarasota will be dredging sand from New Pass in the next few months and using it to renourish Lido Key's beach.

'Dr. Beach' picks Siesta as Country's No. 1 Beach

Stephen Leatherman, popularly known as "Dr. Beach", announced Thursday that he ranks Siesta Key Beach as the country's No. 1 beach. In announcing the honor, Leatherman cited Siesta Beach for having "the finest, whitest sand in the world, which attracts sand collectors and beach lovers from all over." Also, "the clear, clean waters along this gently-sloping beachface make for ideal swimming," according to Leatherman. Two other Florida beaches were named in Leartherman's list of the top 10 beaches.

Conde Nast Traveler Ranks Sarasota One of the Best

Sarasota was ranked No. 15  on Conde Nast Traveler's list of The Best Small Cities in the U.S. The rank is based on the publication's Readers' Choice Awards survey, where over 100,000 readers submitted their favorite U.S. city. Due to an excess of feedback, the website divided the list into large and small cities (those with populations under 150,000).

Conde Nast Traveler credits Sarasota's popularity to its "technicolor sunsets and thatched-roof daiquiri bars," as well as the, "growing farm-to-table movement, soft beaches, and culture." The article cites the Ringling Museum, Sarasota Opera House and Lido and Siesta Key beaches as some of the city's most desirable attractions.  To view Sarasota condos and homes, click here
